B + C = £6.47
A + C = £8.51

How much money do they have altogether?

And how do you show your workings?

add them altogether
A + B + B + C + A + C = 20.96

2A + 2B + 2C = 20.96

SO HALF THE TOTAL
and
A + B + C = 10.98

B=5.98-A
C=8.51-A

B+C= 5.98-A+8.51-A=14.49-2A=6.47

=>2A=14.49-6.47=8.02
=>A=4.01
=>B=5.98-4.01=1.97 and
C=8.51-4.01=4.50

=>A+B+C= 4.01+1.97+4.50=10.48

Check:
A+B=4.01+1.97=5.98
B+C=1.97+4.50=6.47
A+C=4.01+4.50=8.51

And that's why showing your workings is important! :o

Well, Mnisaddictive got the wrong answer, through not checking her workings properly. So, you know, it's up to you.........

(0.5x20.96=10.48 NOT 10.98)

And you were told to show your workings which in may day included double checking. But it's up to you. :o

No, it's an 'all school' monthly maths challenge. I looked at it and had a complete blank about how to do it! ('O' level maths, circa 1978!)
