Uniform/coat help please!

My DS turned 11 at the end of August and is just settling into grammar School.

Apart from the shock regarding homework he is struggling with the amount of books, kit and a laptop that he needs to carry around. He must have felt like a pack horse this morning bless him!

I need a waterproof coat for my DS to wear over his blazer. It needs to by fairly plain, black or navy, lightweight enough to easily pack in his school bag but long enough to cover his blazer!

Has anyone got any recommendations please? His old waterproof takes up too much room in his bag and isn't anywhere near long enough.

Sorry if "education" isn't the right place for this but I need to help him in whatever way I can ATM!

John Lewis do a plain black waterproof, i have just got one for DD as a coat would be too much over the shirt, jumper and blazer lol they are £15 for quite reasonable

yes, I got dd a 3 in 1 black coat from John Lewis, she actually used the waterproof bit this morning, it's perfect over the blazer.

My dd is in exactly the same situation, I've got her a pack-a-mac that she keeps in her bag. Apparently it isn't the done thing to wear anything over your blazer, so I don't feel inclined to pay loads for a coat she won't wear. Have also dispatched her with a small foldup umberella today.

Thank you, I'm off to have a look online!

Not sure DS would use an umbrella and although I have never thought of him as "following the trend" I can imagine he would rather get soaked through rather than stop and struggle getting a jacket from the bottom of a fully loaded bag!

Once it turns that little bit colder I am sure he will happily wear it rather than carry it around!Grin

John Lewis do a range of plain black/navy coats from warmer to waterproof.

However, at secondary do be aware that they don't wear raincoats and they never feel the cold, so don't spend lots of money!

LOL...thank you for the warning!

dd's pack a mac has NEVER been worn! She's in Yr9 now. However they do seem to wear coats in winter (thank God) - but nothing sensible and waterproof - that's not fashionable I'm afraid. According to her, the girls huddle under umbrellas but boys rather get wet Grin
