Are school's obliged to offer students the option of resitting year 12?

I'll bump this for you to say that I think not, but it might be agreed that a pupil can retake the whole year. Problem is that the school might not then be able financially to allow pupil into Y13/U6 when pupil is rising 19.

It depends on the schools admissions policy for 6th form. In very selective/over subscribed 6th forms then it is unlikely. Otherwise it is perfectly possible and happens all the time. I am a 6th form tutor in an 11-18 comp and very often have resit Y12s in my form. We get funding for them until they're 19 anyway.

No we are not obliged. We do if there has been exceptional circumstances during the year. If child has been a pain in the xxxx all year then it is best they start afresh elsewhere.

It also depends on numbers and class sizes. The new Yr 12s are recruited this week and we try to keep class sizes to a reasonable number. We are also limited by the total number of students we are funded for. So if we go over three hundred we will not be paid for the extras no matter what the reason.
