How many changes of uniform do you have?

I'm trying to weigh up if it is actually cheaper to buy five sets so it cuts down on electricity bills. It means I could wash on a Friday night and hang up to dry for Monday.

At the moment I don't have much time to wash mid-week and end up tumble drying and the electricity bills are quite high.

Boys definately need clean trousers, shirt and jumpers every day. One is a teenager and one will be in year 7 and gets very dirty...

DS has always been fine with just 2 pairs of trousers and 2 jumpers, plus 6 shirts - but that has got him through the week without a problem.

I would think 5 cheap sets would work out cheaper than tumble drying, assuming they are not growing out of things too quickly as well. So, 5 cheap sets if they will last the whole year.

Ds at primary had one complete set for every day which meant I could wash it job lot at the weekend, but we had lots of friends handing stuff down.

DD has one school skirt but 5 shirts.

Sorry - DD has just finished Year 8.

DD has got 3 pairs of trews (Asda - fiver a pair, I never pay any more because she destroys them) and about 10 shirts.

Only one jumper though because the school charges £20 for a sodding godforsaken acrylic jumper which frays at the sleeves after a couple of months.

Mind you, is better than her old school for which i had to buy a blazer which cost £70.

We have one skirt, jumper and blazer each, and several shirts and socks.

The washing is done on the weekend, and includes a substantial games kit. The blazers are dry cleaned once a term.

No way would they get completely fresh clothes every day.

My DS has a clean shirt every day, 2 pairs of trousers and one blazer. They are not allowed to wear jumpers. He has PE every day and so has 5 PE kits, which is a pain.

5 PE kits!!! IMO, that is where all the money is in the uniform. Our school kit list calls for two polo shirts, but just one of everything else - and they can potentially do PE or Games every day.

When I was at school, we had one aertex shirt and we brought it home every half term for washing whether it needed it or not.

I know, 5 PE kits is a bit much.He is doing GCSE PE (not to mention several sports clubs during the week also). My washing is a constant round of making sure there is enough PE kit available (he'll wash kit too).

Fresh shirt pants and socks every day but shorts/trousers and jumper every other day unless filthy. Blazer dry clean once per term.

Clean shirt, socks and undercrackers every day. Two jumpers and pairs of trousers (one to wash, one to wear). Blazer is washable, thank goodness: every half term.
Rugby kit is the bane of my life.

Don't get too much uniform. The more you have, the more likely they are to lose it!

The shirts come from the second hand shop, BTW, which would probably tip the buy versus electric bills calculation.

3 sets here too, and about 6 shirts. This means we only have to wash them once a week as long as nothing drastic happens.

Goodness me, I must be a slummy mummy. Mine have clean underwear every day but usually get through the week with the same set of uniform (may change when they start getting into the teenage whiffy stage).

Each of mine have:

1 blazer
4/5 shirts
2 trousers except DD who has only 1 skirt, because she insisted on such a small, tight one, that she'll grow out of it in no time.

They have a clean shirt every couple of days, clean trousers/skirt once a week, and a clean blazer once a year term.

dss (11 and 13) have 3 shirts, 2 jumpers and 2 trousers. They wear clean shirts every day and I wash white on Tuesday night. The rest they change once a week and I wash everything at the weekend.

Just to support the slummy mummies - my DCs have always had 5 shirts each and change shirt, underwear and socks every day but the rest is a weekly wash unless something muddy has happened. I thin a lot of you are vastly over-washing - think of the environment!
