East Dunbartonshire school catchment

my husband is considering moving to east Dunbartonshire. Considering near to his work and school catchment. But reading the thread in Bearsden catchment showing difficult to get accepted even in catchment area. Please enlighten me. The house we might move in is showing Bearsden primary and Killermont. How do they decide which school will be accepted? The distance is just few .3 something. I Hear good talk about both school but what is it really for parents who have kids in the school ( who experience moving their kids to a new school)? As I’m 50/50 as I’m worried of my kids not settling. ( Like bullies and other issues.) as a relative 20 years experience bullying in the said primary school. And read another news about it recently 😬. We Will be selling our current house if we decided to move in Bearsden . Anything will be helpful.

Someone more knowledgeable will reply but Bearsden primary and killermont primary are different catchment areas.

Honestly not sure of Bearsden primary catchment but for killermont you need to be in Boclair/kessington area. Boclair Academy is the feeder school and excellent.

Thank you so much for your reply. Thought it is how near house location to school also way to know the catchment. As i put in the address in the map, it show the 2 school catchment is Bearsden and Killermont. And the rest of it are secondary school. Is there you can recommend primary school than the two? And nursery as well? Thank you

This is new idea. Never know about it. As previous we just put them near school our house that is great and newly built. Unfortunately there a need to move new location. Is this the EDC situation now because it’s is known for good school tendency to get rejected for application. When I use the website out in the address , school near the house but then it show different catchment school ? (Colquhoun and westerton)

I’m sorry I’m not quite following you. Are you saying when you put in the new address it’s not showing the closest school as the catchment one?

I don’t really understand what you are saying to be honest, as regards bullying etc.

But I am from Bearsden, went to Killermont then Boclair, if you tell me the street the house is on I can tell you which school catchment it is in.

The school showing on EDC website for that postcode will be the correct one.

Is it a fairly new house? I’m not in ED but there have been new houses built near me and they are in the catchment for a local primary which is not the nearest school to them as that one had no space for expansion. The boundary was drawn so they are in catchment for a school in opposite direction which has capacity for expansion, still a local school though

Also live locally. The catchments for Bearsden Primary and Killermont do not overlap. The distance between the two may be similar depending on where you live but catchments are fixed.

The dividing line is Milngavie Road where the Asda is. Anything on the Asda side of the road up to Hillfoot station is Killermont. Anything on the other side of the road is Bearsden Primary, including the new houses built near the Allander.

Bearsden Primary feeds into Bearsden Academy. Killermont feeds into Boclair. If you live in the Bearsden Primary catchment and ask for a placing request to Killermont, you are not then guaranteed a place at Boclair. In recent years, getting a placement request into Bearsden Primary has been nigh on impossible. In my direct experience, both secondary schools are great.

If your catchment school is Westerton or Colquhoun Park, then you are in the catchment for Boclair Academy.

A quick phone call to EDC would clarify all this. Do not rely on sites like Rightmove.

Bearsden and Killermont are a fair distance apart. Where is the house?

Me too @tennisallday 😆 although I don’t live there now so my own kids didn’t go to Killermont and/or Boclair
