Posted this on Food and Recipes section but thought I'd try here too...I would just pop to the butchers but sadly I no longer live in Scotland!

Does anyone have a recipe for a good old fashioned Scottish mince round? My gran always used to make it and I'm full of the cold and really fancy it. Will the type of dish I use make a difference? Maybe a stupid question but my gran always used a pie plate, so do I need one of those rather than a normal pie dish? Is it short crust base and puff pastry topping or puff pastry all round? Any help much appreciated.

Oh gosh, poor you! In our house, it’s shortcrust. I cheat and just melt the butter slightly in the microwave and stir in to the flour, bung it in the fridge and it’s fine!
fry mince and onions etc, sprinkle with flour, stir in stock, heat to thicken.
if you’re flush put pastry on top, if you’re broke put pastry on the bottom too!
we use metal pie plate but anything will work too - after all it’s a dish made by exhausted women with no money before we were all persuaded to cook thai and Mexican and gaze at enormous photos of handsome chefs in books. Yikes!
maybe blind bake if you can be bothered but thick soggy pastry is essential in my mind! Along with fried potatoes and peas.
get better soon!
