Help! Need a shared flat for 18 yr old Edinburgh student - male, going into seconds year. He’s just been stitched up like a kipper by friend that strung him along all summer and now says he wants to live at home. I’m SO cross with this friend- to let ds do all the running and each time ds finds something the friend comes up with an excuse .
any hints or help very welcome. Staying at home not really an option due to various stuff. Thank you

citylets website and there's some accommodation groups on facebook for flat shares
let every other friend he has in the city know he's looking for a room too so they can keep an ear out for anything

Try domus and spareroom plus meadow share and parents of Edinburgh uni students Facebook sites.

Gah, poor child. DD had a similar wannabe roommate who then pulled out, but thankfully she got another place just before end of term.
Has he contacted the uni accommodation office? They'll have letting agents details, and may have others in this situation. Are there any vacancies in halls as a RA?

Those purpose built student accommodation blocks could be worth a look? DS was able to rent an individual room in a shared student flat that way. Not much choice on who you get put in with, though, obvs (although room/flat swaps were a possibility, at least in the one he was in).

It's not necessarily that cheap but I think bills are usu included

He’s seen a couple of shared houses - the rooms are being let by a landlord so they are not a house of friends but a house of older students/ professionals. Just doesn’t sound much fun! Trying to persuede him to go on Facebook but he’s got it into his head that that’s not cool. What do I know?
thanks for the support !

Is private halls an option? They can be more expensive, but at least he would be with a group of other students.

Private hall prices have gone mad in Edinburgh. However you might be able to get Bridge House under £200 a week (other Unite ones are more like £250 a week). Friend of DD stayed at student coop house near the meadows. They might have short term sublets which could tide him over until this years masters students graduate and give up accommodation. Not sure when the resit results are out as I imagine there will be a few not coming back in September.
