Anyone in the know about the Discovery Festival in Slessor Gardens - Dundee

We'll be in Dundee when the Discovery Festival is on so are considering getting tickets. We went years ago when Simply Red played and it was fantastic! The thing that's putting me off is the start time of 12 noon. Looking at details from last year it seems it was a 5pm start time with the first act on at 5:30pm. We have plans during the day so can't (and don't really want to) arrive there so early. Does anyone know whether the acts will start that early?

We were there last year and got in at around quarter to 6 and we’d missed a good chunk of the first act.

All I can find is gates opening at 12 on the info for this year so I don’t know if they’re allowing more time for people to get in or not but I probably wouldn’t risk it unless you weren’t bothered about the first acts.

Thanks for that update. That was my fear. Especially as they're not saying the order of acts either. I think we'll give it a miss as 10 hours in there would tip my husband over the edge! 😂

Liz Hobbs Group is the organiser.
They usually post running order few daysbefore the event.
Might be worth contacting them?

I had a look right back on their FB from last year and the full day one they did was gates at 1pm and first act at 1.45pm so a little longer to get in but I think you’d definitely still miss a few if you waited hours.

As the PP said if you find the Discovery Featival and Liz Hobbs Group pages on FB they do release the running order but not until a bit closer to the time.

We were the Friday so a shorter day, there were 4 acts, so the first act started at 5.30pm, they all had decent set lengths but then pretty big gaps between each too and I’m not sure exactly when it finished but I have some photos of the final act at 10.45pm so I think their timings were about right.

Tbh the 5 hours we were there was long enough as we didn’t have any seating and I was exhausted (and it was expensive enough for the food and drink as it was, hate to think what a full day would have cost us). I think they’ve promised to have some sort of seating this year at least but I’m not going because I just didn’t fancy any of the acts this year. 🙈

I don't have Facebook and when Googling, it was only showing the Friday so thanks for checking.

We're only in Dundee for the Saturday and Sunday so have ruled it out. I also don't want to pay for the tickets then nearer the time when the running time is released it confirms it's a full day thing! There's no way I'm spending 10 hrs there and as you say, it would cost an absolute fortune! I remember with Simply Red, cans or Gordon's G&T were over £5!! No thanks!

You could probably wander past later on when you’re free and hear whoever is on from outside the festival anyway. Some nearby pubs have outside seating and it would definitely be cheaper for a drink there. 🤣

Haha I did that the morning after Simply Red. Went an got a breakfast roll and sat by the water and listened to Paloma Faith do her sound check! Husband was in bed hungover so it was a lovely morning for me!
