2026 SQA exams - is there a thread?

I can't see a thread so am starting it!

Last year my DS went through a mix of Hs and AH in S6 and now is finishing first year of uni.

It's now the middle child's turn - she's sitting six Highers in S5, and they're all packed in over about thirteen days! She's totally finished by the 11th.

Can't believe they've come round so fast.

Higher German went well here. Writing choice about school exchange was very well received as she’s done one! Said listening hard but paper one very good!

Hope everyone has had a successful day, whether it’s been PE, German or both!

LaughingLemur · 18/05/2026 16:21

DD did the school exchange one too, though sadly she's not been on one. She thought Paper 1 was great too.

Chocolateforbreakfasttoday · 18/05/2026 17:15

Glad it’s gone well for her @LaughingLemur I had to say that I thought they were a thing of the past but she did it in late S3 here then early S4 in Germany. Great experience and cost the price of the flight as you commit as a host to cover accommodation/ food/ other costs.

cazzyg · 18/05/2026 17:20

Last exam tomorrow here with AH Modern Studies.

Good luck to everyone sitting modern studies tomorrow!

LaughingLemur · 18/05/2026 17:48

I thought they were a thing of the past too @Chocolateforbreakfasttoday especially with so few pupils taking German now. What a great experience for her.

She’s really disappointed them at AH won’t be a viable option for her next year. She’d be in a Nat 5/H/AH class or college. She doesn’t fancy college and the mixed class would be frustrating for all I think. It’s been a great experience though and she’s considering a year abroad at uni.
I’d recommend the exchange to anyone who could do it. They had an absolutely incredible time and gained a real insight into life in Germany.

LaughingLemur · 18/05/2026 17:55

Oh that's a real shame for her @Chocolateforbreakfasttoday as I'm sure she'd have loved the AH. I've heard the college courses are really good. My DD wanted to take French and German AH but also not working out timetable wise. A year abroad at uni sounds like a great opportunity to keep her German up at least.

Chocolateforbreakfasttoday · 18/05/2026 18:16

I think college would have been a great opportunity but not my choice! Her class have loved their course but it’s just not popular any more.

LaughingLemur · 18/05/2026 18:35

It's a shame isn't it? DD was going to do German at college but now her school aren't doing French she'll probably do it at college instead as only allowed to have one college course.

DS was really pleased with Higher Modern which was a very positive end to exam season. Hope everyone else DC get on ok if they have exams left and enjoy the time off

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/05/2026 19:19

DS was disappointed in AH Mods today. Although he felt well prepared, it just wasn’t the type of questions he feels he does best in. It’s a shame, he has hated mods this year, when it was consistently his best and favourite subject up to S5, always scoring very high marks. Half the year group had dropped it throughout the year. He says it’s part-content, part frustration with the teacher.

LoopyGremlin · 20/05/2026 15:17

Computing seemed to go ok today thankfully! Just one more to go 🎉

InsertUsernameHere · 20/05/2026 19:10

I’m glad computing went well @LoopyGremlin all I got was “fine” from mine. I do feel a bit sorry for my DC as he still has another 2 to go, while his friends seem to have finished ages ago.

notmarysmum · 20/05/2026 22:38

Yes computing seemed to be fine here. Last one tomorrow - good luck to all on Nat 5 physics

GenieGenealogy · 20/05/2026 22:43

My last shift invigilating tomorrow too - in for H physics in the morning. I think they have purposely given me exams which I have no idea about this year.

weebarra · 21/05/2026 07:29

Last one today - Nat 5 physics. DS2 crashed this as didn’t take it last year but we got some group tutoring and he got a B in the prelim. He said last night he thinks he’ll either ace it or bomb it. Good luck to all the physicists today

PuffinPopIn · 21/05/2026 12:54

Has anyone heard anything about Higher Physics yet? I'm told it was "alright" which I think means it was actually terrible

InsertUsernameHere · 21/05/2026 13:28

@PuffinPopIn The response in this house was paper 1 decent, paper 2 not. But managed to finish the paper - but not confident or pleased. One more still to go….

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 21/05/2026 14:38

DD thought higher physics was ok but it seems everyone else thought it was a bad paper.

GenieGenealogy · 21/05/2026 14:40

Girl I was invigilating was happy with both papers.

Calmvibes · 21/05/2026 16:16

Nat 5 physics seemed to be.a good paper.....my son and his.pals found it.fine..he was dreading it.as all.had found the prelim awful.and he had found some of the past papers tricky too..so.a pleasant.surprise.for.his last.one..all.8 done.at.llong ast..the household.can all relax.now!

LoopyGremlin · 21/05/2026 17:57

Last exam done! DS thought H Physics was ok.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 22/05/2026 23:35

Last exam today. AH Statistics. Tough, but not horrific apparently. There were one or two questions that apparently had everyone scratching their heads, but DS and his mates are of the view that there’s such a small cohort taking the exam, if they all found it tough, the grade boundaries are guaranteed to be adjusted to reflect this. Whether this is down to their statistical knowledge or wishful thinking I don’t know… 😂

Just venting. We live in a house undergoing renovation, but I have been avoiding getting any work done this year until after the exams. Last exam tomorrow and the house next door has got people in to replace their flat roof today. Early morning delivery of materials and constant banging ever since.🤦‍♀️ DD did a huge amount yesterday thankfully, but may have to take her out somewhere to revise today. House is empty most of the time, as owner is in a care home, so it's used as a holiday home by the relatives. Shame the ones who still live in the village didn't have the courtesy to let me know, as I could have asked them to delay by a day.

Good luck to everyone with exams still to go. 🍀🤞.

With respect, you can't expect neighbours to work round your child's exams. It's just unfortunate timing.
