2026 SQA exams - is there a thread?

I can't see a thread so am starting it!

Last year my DS went through a mix of Hs and AH in S6 and now is finishing first year of uni.

It's now the middle child's turn - she's sitting six Highers in S5, and they're all packed in over about thirteen days! She's totally finished by the 11th.

Can't believe they've come round so fast.

yes @RausageSoul Nat 5 currently ongoing
and that’s reassuring - she has been working at history, but as it’s one of her better subjects she’s not been doing as much as she did over the last couple of weeks for maths and English. so then of course she gets stressed and worried about not doing enough….
I honestly think I find her doing exams more stressful than when I did them 😂

@MrsMattSantosoh you are preaching to the choir, last year experiencing Nat5s hit me in a way I never expected. I tried to rationalise but it was such a strange time as you want to protect their peace and privacy, so not discussing with mum friends.

i honestly found the Mumsnet thread last year so so helpful and I hope this can help you too!

LoopyGremlin · 14/05/2026 15:20

Both Higher and AH History seem to be good papers. Just waiting to hear what N5 is like 🤞

Issy422 · 14/05/2026 15:50

DD also happy with Higher History. Both 1917 (the one I couldn't remember) and women came up and neither Five Giants nor Civil War (the other I couldn't remember) were there. She also mentioned a push/pull factor question that she was unsure about.

Hope the Nat5 has gone well this afternoon.

Another long break now as only Art & Design left on 26th for DD.

MrsMattSantos · 14/05/2026 16:15

Nat 5 history was ‘fine’ apparently, although the one topic she wasn’t keen on (decline of heavy industry post WW1) came up in one of the 9 mark questions - though the other one she had done in a prelim, so I guess it balances out
she spent more time complaining about my ‘ugly’ shoes when I went to get her

Exactly the same situation here!

Yes, decline of heavy industry was not a favourite here either! DS2 has maths apps tomorrow then nothing til physics on the 21st

That’s a much nicer spread than last year N5 when it was maths, physics and apps one after the other!

LaughingLemur · 14/05/2026 17:46

DD has Higher maths apps tomorrow. She's had a nice long break since French so hopefully done enough studying. Then last exam is German on Monday.

Totally agree! I'm more nervous than DS

DC thought History went really well today, better than expected 🤞

Only 1 more exam to go, thank goodness!

What do all your DC do between end of exams and start of the new year in June? Is there any expectation to go in to school? DC will pick up more shifts at work.

sociableintrovert123 · 14/05/2026 19:35

DS’s last exam is physics Nat 5 on Thursday 21st. We are going on holiday from 22nd to 25th and he is back at school on 27th May so he doesn’t have much time off at all.

Ds said design and manufacture today went well, but he said he would've really struggled if he didn't also take woodwork. He said that there were questions about joints and things they'd never been taught but he knew if from the woodwork course. His teacher has been off a big chunk of the year and they seemed to focus a lot on folio work.
He got 40/45 for the folio piece so hopefully that can pull him up if the exam wasn't as good as he expected.

Should everyone have an idea of results for folios and assignments? I thought they were marked and added to exam results by SQA? I have twins doing highers, one of them has quite a lot riding on doing decent assignments but no feedback from school since handing them in.

I'm not sure how it works of all subjects but DS design folio was chosen for moderation by SQA, so he knows his mark. The class teachers mark them but a sample are selected for moderation.

He doesn't have final results of coursework for any other subjects, but some teachers have given an indication of what they would expect his mark to be.

StillnessStill · 15/05/2026 00:12

Ours don’t go back to class until 3rd June, exam window is until 2nd (includes the contingency days).

Lots finishing wither today with history or with apps tomorrow.

I just don’t get the exam set up in this country!

MrsMattSantos · 15/05/2026 00:16

yeah DD doesn’t go back to classes till the first week in June - but her last exam isn’t till May 28 so not much of a break for her!
still 2 Nat5s to go, art and Italian, but at least they’re both good subjects for her

weebarra · 15/05/2026 07:27

Nat5 apps today. Probably his best subject but I did get asked to help with long division at midnight. There’s a big gap in his basic maths, I think he had a very non-maths minded teacher during Covid and we didn’t realise he’d completely missed some topics.

Calmvibes · 15/05/2026 13:04

Nat 5 apps sounds.like it was 2 good.papers...my son and pals.found.it very easy and left 30.mins early..phew... l am pleased for.him.as.last.weeks.maths was.much trickier!!

weebarra · 15/05/2026 13:19

DS2 happy too. Everyone seems to think it was good. One more to go, it’s been a slog!

Stressedoutmybox · 15/05/2026 15:08

Waiting with baited breath to see how H Apps went!

LaughingLemur · 15/05/2026 18:17

Higher Apps went ok for DD. She wasn't sure about a few questions but did her best at them.
