Does anyone have any recommendations please? DD wants to try before she decides.

Where are you OP? Glasgow area, everyone goes to Dress2party or Halo, be prepared to pay upwards of £500 in both.

We used jjshouse which is online but for £6 you can order and try a dress and send it back. DD did this with 3 dresses (different styles in 3 diff colours and 2 sizes) to give her a feel for what she wanted before ordering one.

MyJollyMentor · 27/03/2026 23:27

Dd got hers on JJshouse. She put in her measurements so got it custom made for her, and so non returnable.

It fitted her perfectly. Far better than anything off the shelf.

I was so relieved! £100

@Executrixnotextraordinairewe’re able to visit Glasgow easily but I won’t be parting with £500 for a dress for one night. Thanks though

I don't know where you are but Falkirk has a shop called Envy (i think) they do prom dresses, my friends Dd got hers there, i bought both my Dds online..

£500 for a dress for a school prom?! Go online…my daughter been looking on a site called hello molly which seems reasonable enough

stonkytonk11 · 08/04/2026 08:41

in terms of shops. It depends where you are based?!

DaydreamerBetty · 08/04/2026 08:41

Stacees online do a custom fit service

Lomonald · 08/04/2026 08:42

I can't remember where we got Dds they left school over a decade ago, but it was definitely cheaper online

HushTheNoise · 09/04/2026 08:07

We went to the Falkirk one, got one in the sale £65. Job done. I adjusted it myself. Or look on FB marketplace. Once they have makeup, hair shoes on, noone can tell who spent £50 or £1000. Or which are Preloved. They all look fab.

RayonSunrise · 09/04/2026 08:10

OP, if you have a look on Vinted after trying dresses on in a shop like Dress 2 Party you’ll often find girls selling on the exact dresses for a lot less! Dress 2 Party also sells old stock for less there, too (or did when my DD was looking for her dress a couple of years ago, anyway!)
