Hi
Off to Glasgow soon. Staying in hotel near Glasgow Central. I was hoping for some suggestions on wher to eat for lunch/tea. Somewhere the locals etc. Basic fare, but good coffee and cakes a bonus. Budget defo not expensive. I'll be travelling alone so somewhere please where singles can eat without looking like a saddo. Thanks :)

Not sure about near glasgow central but if you fancy a walk over to high street area (20 mins or so) there are lots of great cafes in that area including places like spitfire and sister midnight

Sannabay · 06/03/2026 21:16

Thank you for this. I'll do a quick street search x

Cafe Mulberry, cute and cheap wee place, food is always lovely

meikyo · 06/03/2026 21:26

The Butterfly and the Pig is great!

Have a look around the Merchant City. It is a
10 minute walk from Central, other side of Buchanan Street.

Sannabay · 07/03/2026 07:43

Thank you Dancemom. That sounds just the ticket! Can't resist a place described as Wee ;)

I've googled Butterfly and Pig and that looks amazing too.
Yep I'll check out Merchant City only going for three nights so I reckon I'm sorted now. Thanks all and have a great weekend x

The Butterfly and the Pig is great!

We had Afternoon Tea at The Butterflyand The Pig in December on a trip to Glasgow , it was delicious .

I find afternoon tea quite disappointing usually but theirs was really lovely .

Ophir · 07/03/2026 19:42

Singl End is good.

Butterfly and pig isn’t handy and I didn’t like it anyway, weird.

Hazel is getting good reviews and their afternoon tea looks lovely

The Delphine is very nice, and would be easy to eat alone there.

If you’re there in term time, the restaurant at Glasgow City College, Scholars, is fabulous and so so cheap: the students cook and serve it all. There’s also a cafe and a student bistro within the college beside it; and one or two in Strathclyde university by the sports department.

The Atlantic is also lovely and a good place to eat alone.

if you like a cake, you cannot miss Tantrum Doughnuts!

You should look on the itison app for good deals for food too

Quick lunch ‘piece’ near central is a delicious sandwich shop.
Coffee / cake Kaffateria, Lab espresso, Mor bake house or Tantrum doughnuts.
Dinner, Ramen Dayo, Lychee, Amarone all very reasonable.

Cafe Fame is very close to Central Station on Hope Street, don’t think it’s open in the evenings, but I’ve always found it to be good, friendly, nice menu and definitely ok if you’re eating alone and not at all expensive.
