My daughter is waiting to hear from Glasgow for Common Law. She has her other offers but this is the one she really wants. We are finding the waiting so hard! Why does it take so long? It’s driving me nuts.

My daughter finally got her last offer in yesterday so can finally firm and send in to UCAS. She was early application (vet med) so it’s been a crazy long wait. Even then it’s conditional so not in the bag until results day. It’s not the greatest system.
good luck to your DD!

Many congratulations to your daughter. I know for law mid to end March is when the bulk of offers go out, but that doesn’t make the waiting any easier.

DD also waiting for a Law response from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Strathclyde. I feel your pain! It is such a long wait but I guess they are inundated with applications. Hopefully we will hear something soon. Best of luck to your DD x

Fingers crossed for your DD too. Is it Common Law she’s applied to? That what my daughter has gone for.

Law offers do tend to be later as they’re so competitive and in Glasgow’s case they also wait for the LNAT scores and cohort average.

Thank you and yes. She was happy with her LNaT score and thinks it is above the average however, as you wrote, there are a number of factors which are take into consideration so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed!

Hey I know this thread has gone a bit quiet but wondered if you could share some advice. My DS is in S4 and studying for his Nat 5s just now. He has expressed an interest in studying law. I’m not sure it’s the best choice for him but l I’ll try and support him where possible. Is there any advice you’d give at his stage? He is taking English, maths, Spanish, modern studies and business highers next year. Thanks.

Stillreadingalot · 14/03/2026 11:42

Those sound like a good mix of highers.Law is not especially easy to get into and they do usually look for good results in 5 highers at 1 sitting. Also some want a decent LNAT result and a strong personal statement. It's good if your ds can try to get work experience/volunteering in either a law office or similar. Dd was also advised to go along to the courts to watch/listen.

sociableintrovert123 · 14/03/2026 11:53

Thanks @Stillreadingalot that’s helpful.

Hi there, what attracts him to law? My daughter joined the debating club at school and that’s what convinced her about law. Going to law talks at uni open days was very helpful. Unis seem to like to see good scores in English. Some unis ask for them to sit the LNAT test. My daughter enjoyed doing it and I think that cemented her choice. If you google it there’s a test paper online. Most LLB degrees are the same structure though York approaches it slightly differently as they create legal scenarios for them to work on as a way of learning. It’s hard work as a degree and competitive for entry. But if he’s passionate about it, I’m sure he’ll succeed.

Thanks @Innisfree What attracts him to law? I’m almost embarrassed to write this down but he loved watching Suits and thinks that’s the job for him 😂
He also likes the variety of law specialisms available and the fact it’s a good degree which can be applied to different sectors. I don’t think it’s the degree/career for him but time will tell.

Stillreadingalot · 14/03/2026 13:07

DD enjoyed films like " A Few Good Men" and we were big West Wing watchers. Lots of people study law and then go into related fields but don't necessarily practice law. Its a solid, demanding degree which as pp have said can be applied to different sectors. DD was interested in politics but was advised ( by a politician) not to study politics !

I think the best thing would be to go to some uni open days and speak to the students. I agree law is very flexible in terms of future career options.

What I would say to any Law student now is that if they think they want to be lawyers they should be trying to get internships and experience as early as possible, even whilst still at school going to things that law firms put on. My son has just got a traineeship but there are so many law students it is really competitive.

He should have a look at the big law firms. Most do either online or virtual schemes for those interested in law and really useful when applying for internships if they get into law. For example...Work experience | Digby Brown

Congratulations to your DD. It was worth the wait 🥳

Well Done to your DD @Innisfree!
My DD got a conditional offer so fingers crossed.🤞

lovetrackerbars · 23/03/2026 21:43

@gracielooloothat’s fab news ! She will be delighted. What are her conditions ? I’ve heard conditions are higher this year. We are waiting (patiently lol)

gracielooloo · 24/03/2026 07:17

Thanks @lovetrackerbars, hopefully you’ll hear soon.
She needs to get an A in one of her Advanced Highers, she has unconditionals from her other four so not a disaster if she doesn’t get it.
Plus it’s a lot of pressure just to get in which makes me slightly nervous for the next few years!

lovetrackerbars · 24/03/2026 11:41

@gracielooloo5/5 is amazing achievement! Well done to your daughter
