Any parents here have experience of this school? Before I send my child here, Im wondering if pupils find they are isolated by peers due to internal competition?

You might get some more replies on the extracurricular music thread but people are often reluctant to comment on specific specialist schools as they are so small. It does get the highest sqa results in the country I think! I know of some of my child's friends who have gone there, they seem lovely and supportive. I don't know for sure if that is the experience for everyone? Hopefully. I have a child at a junior department and they are all really supportive of each other despite knowing each others strengths and areas for development in playing, who is better at certain things, who is more likely to win competitions etc.

There's a bit of competition among choristers as their voices change. There are fewer places for older choristers so there's a bit of a scramble to meet the standard for a second instrument.

Apart from that it's like any other school. There are nice, supportive kids and there are highly competitive kids.

My nephew is there right now and happy. Although he is making noises now about moving schools because he wants to play more rugby. That's not on offer at the music school because of the risk of breaking a finger or an arm.
