Edinburgh trams - where is the route going?!

The council have released a 'map' of proposed tram routes. The only images I can find are very thin on detail - apparently using the South Suburban rail line but will have a stop at Napier Uni in Craiglockhart which the railway doesn't go past? Is this just the council getting their crayons out or is there some more detail available? The map on the BBC is about as clear as the hand drawn Gorgie map off twitter.

Route for third Edinburgh tram line unveiled

The detailed plans show Edinburgh's south suburban railway being used with a new connection to the existing route on Leith Walk.

The City of Edinburgh is 1 billion pounds in debt and our stupid , incompetent council want to waste more money on more trams.
They could have bought electric buses which are far more versatile than waste so much money on trans.

Oh I definitely don't want more trams. I'd love to see passenger trains on the South Suburban line again - which would be easier to do as all we need is the stations. Pretending one is at Napier Uni is nonsense though, it's a good 20 minute walk from where the railway line crosses Colinton Road.

I was confused by this too! Where does it cross Colinton Road?

I am also for opening the south circular, but doesn’t it go all the way to Balerno? Apparently it used to take 15 minutes from the Balerno station to Princes Street! Imagine!

I understand though that the reason it would have to be tram/train hybrids is actually because of congestion at Waverley (and no way to expand it). This way they could mostly use the old track but then switch to road at the end, which would be a lot less disruptive than… rebuilding the Dean bridge? 😅

I am not against more tram lines, but I am against the disruption for residents. I hope lessons were learned. I just keep thinking about the hole that celebrated its birthday on Leith walk.

I’m against the digging up of north bridge for tramlines - if it’s even ever reopened.

The Council hasn't exactly covered itself in glory with the trams so far, has it?

We live exactly 20 miles south west of Edinburgh as the crow flies, on a good day that's 1hr 15 mins, on a bad bad 2 plus hours. From Bilston onwards is nearly half the journey time on the bus often more on the journey home , it's absolutely unsustainable, nevermind adding this shit show, unless they ban cars from those roads? Which would be lovely for me, not many living in southside Edinburgh I imagine.

I live in the south of edinburgh and am dreading any of this. Cameron toll has already been a mess on and off for years and I can’t work out how they could possibly make a tram line work there. There’s also a consultation out to rebuild the entire centre - more student housing (sigh) and hotel?!? It’s all ridiculous. Would be nice if they just focussed on making what we already have work properly before creating more of a mess.

hopefully nowhere!!

This was a councillor’s concept and seems to have grown legs as reported widely this morning
