Private Gynaecologist recommendation - central belt

Could anyone recommend a private gynaecologist in the central belt area, preferably Greater Glasgow but would travel.
I’d rather a female doctor but would go with a good recommendation of a male doctor too.
Been referred on urgent 2 week pathway but that wait is 18-26 weeks at presentAngry. Don’t think I can wait that long without falling apart with stress.

i went to a lovely one in Edinburgh recently but just looked it up and unfortunately she’s not got any bookings until march. I haven’t been for gynaecology but I have had only great experiences from the circle health hospital in Glasgow, the Ross hall one.

The Glasgow waiting time is half a year to be checked for suspected cancer?????? Fuck me John Swinney needs a slap in the face every time he spends money on another bullshit project instead of this.

They should show profiles and scope of practice in their Bupa or Nuffield bios. You need to find someone who specialises in the condition you may have. I'd pick someone who works for your local health board as they would be more likely to quickly get you back into the NHS system if you needed ongoing care. Look on the websites - they give a lot of detail. The gynaes at my nearest hospital don't do biopsy privately, for example - so not useful in your scenario.

Thanks, I’ve been looking at the Ross Hall Circle one so good to know you’ve had good experiences.

That was my thoughts. As the lady was checking the waiting times she was verbalising what she was doing then I was pretty speechless. I clarified that was the wait time for urgent referrals alone.
I’m phoning my doctor on Monday to confirm what the details of my referral were and to double check it is down on urgent (however hospital staff thought it was but I can’t remember if I said it was urgent or she had it on her screen).

Thanks for that information, good to know that sticking to my own health board is best.
I’ll do some research again but also see who has availability sooner rather than later. That’s a weird thing though as in my head I’m saying that there must be a reason some have long wait times and some don’t!

I know you've hardly got the headspace but please consider emailing your msp - election is coming up and they're simply lying about stuff like this

I would recommend Dr Cameron Martin at Spire Murrayfield in Edinburgh

I called Ross Hall to make an appointment earlier in December & was offered an apoointment the same day! I wish you all the best, disgusted to hear that wait time.....

ToffeeSheep · 21/12/2025 21:44

I would recommend Dr Andrew Paterson at Ross Hall

Hi, just wanted to pop in and say good luck - I’m in the NE and was referred on the urgent, suspected cancer pathway in April and was told it would be over a six month wait for an initial appointment. I went private through the circle health group up here (and just took the gynaecologist with the first appointment and she was fine) but even then ended up in a eight week wait for a procedure as it had to be done under general anaesthetic and there was limited availability. It’s horrible to have to wait, I was very stressed, and I think it was made worse by feeling like the Scottish health system fails women and I couldn’t trust that I’d get the care I needed.

Hope you get good news once you get an appointment and any required tests.
