DH has just informed me, face clouded with sorrow, that ‘something really, really bad’ has happened, something that threatens to ‘put a real spanner in the works this Christmas’.

Turns out Ramsay’s of Carluke, from whom he has ordered an annual box of Scottish pork products (inc. Lorne sausage, black pudding, haggis of varying sizes, etc) ever since moving south, has closed. Can anyone recommend an alternative, please?

mòran taing in advance, etc.

As an alternative, it’s really easy to make your own Square sausage, you just buy Lorne sausage seasoning mix ( the same stuff butchers use) and add it to a mix of pork and beef mince following the instructions, stick it in a loaf tin in the freezer and then slice when semi frozen. I had to do this when DH went on a low fat diet so I could make low fat square sausage seasoning the commercial ones were £££ with really thin slices!

Thanks so much for these suggestions! I might even give the homemade square sausage a go too…

Donald Russell are excellent and do square sausage- personally I hate the stuff so have never tried theirs, but their produce generally is good quality and delivery reliable.

Best square sausage I've found is from the Buffalo Farm in Fyfe. The do mail order.
