Any recommendations for somewhere for a big family get together in Scotland? Thinking lodges/Cottages etc. 5 families travelling from all over Scotland so anywhere in Scotland considered. All families have kids ranging from 3 to 8 years old up to grandparents in their 70's. Long weekend next summer.

How many people in total and do you want everyone under one roof or something like a number of lodges all on the same site?

GreenSweeties · 10/11/2025 13:21

We liked Morton of Pitmilly in Kingsbarns. Some big houses sleeping up to 10 (or more with sofa beds) but also a selection of smaller ones (if some prefer there own space).

middleagedandinarage · 10/11/2025 17:34

Thanks for the recommendations, 11 adults and 8 kids so 19 total. Probably seperate lodges on the same site rather than everyone under one roof. But maybe one bigger house/lodge where we can all gather then a few smaller seperate.

We stayed here recently on Loch Tay, very peaceful with a private beach. It's about 15 minutes drive along a twisty single track road though, incase that puts you off! bracken-lodges.com/

Piperdam near Dundee always did the biggest lodges. Up to 12 people and it had a snooker table and roulette whee. But it's been a long time since I've been there and has changed owner so would need an up to date to date review.

Good central location for visiting other places.

Piper dam has been mentioned actually, although I've read some reviews that the accommodation is very run down now which is putting us off a little!

We stayed in as place in Castle Douglas. There were 2x2 bed lodges with hot tub and a third huge place with amazing outdoor living area. Not sure how many bedrooms but there seemed to be about 20 people there.
Overlooked a lake and was immaculate.
First link is lochside house, second link is lochside apartments where we stayed. Highly recommend the area as well.

I suspect it's the older ones.

The original Rainbow and Osprey lodges were quite dated even 10 years ago.

But the more modern ones aren't particularly old and can't imagine they'd go from lovely to tatty in just a few years.

I stayed at Balmeadowside near Cupar - hot tubs, variety of sizes of lodges, lovely walks on site, very peaceful.

have also heard good things about Lindores & Madeira in Fife, also Kilconqhuar. There’s also Auchrannie in Arran if you’re all happy to take the ferry over.

And maybe consider lodges at Crieff hydro - so much to do for young kids there.

Kelly cabins ate great, we stayed in 4 llodges there, they each have a hot tub and a bbq hut.
You would probably have the whole place to yourself with those numbers.

Jellycatspyjamas · 15/11/2025 23:07

Stature is lovely, good variation in accommodation sizes and lots to do especially if you have kids and the weather isn’t great. They also have dog friendly lodges if you’re including a furry friend or two.

This place is in a lovely location and has a large house and multiple lodges on site. It would perhaps give you space in the house to gather together but each family space to retreat to.

Barwheys in Ayrshire is amazing. Big central house where every bedroom is en suite, large dining area, 2 separate lodges on either side of the main house too. There’s also a big games barn with tv etc too.

We had a big family gathering this year at McArthur Manor in Blairgowrie. All under one roof but slept all 27 of us. Cater for yourselves or they’ll cook for you. We had such a good time (was for my dad’s 80th) that we’re going back in 2027 for my stepmum’s 80th! Big games room (pool, table tennis etc) garden games provided and just the friendliest most helpful yet discreet staff. Highly recommend!

  • Forest Lodges at Strathyre (also have two other locations but I've not been) - lovely lodges with hot tubs, site is fairly central in Scotland but you need a car to get anywhere
  • Blair Atholl Caravan Park has some lovely lodges, train station and some shops in the village which is walking distance
  • St Andrews Forest lodges - really nice lodges many with hot tubs. Not a lot on the site but it's five minute drive/20 minute walk into St Andrews which is beautiful and has lots of places to eat and drink
  • Crieff Hydro also has self-catering lodges and access to all the facilities on site. They've got a good Black Friday sale coming up, normally happens the week of Thanksgiving
GlasgowGal2014 · 17/11/2025 21:52
  • Also Pine Bank Chalets in Aviemore - a bit pricey, but the lodges are gorgeous and some of them are pretty unique. I think they also have one large house on the site too. And it's a short walk into Aviemore, and there's so much for kids to do around there.

I recommend Gargunnock House, we stayed there recently and had an amazing time! So much space.
