I am incredulous. Also very sorry for the people of Ardrossan, Arran and frequent visitors there (e.g. me).

Caledonian Isles: Arran ferry return delayed by up to four months

The Caledonian Isles was forced out of action 18 months ago, leaving a hole in the timetable for ferries.

Why are you incredulous? It's hardly a surprise that a 32 year old ferry which has some severe structural faults is taking a long time to repair.

It’s not the length of time to fix - it’s the fact that a significant failure wasn’t planned for leaving people with great problems - although yes, why be surprised that short term financial goals took priority

I'm not incredulous that an old ferry needs massive repairs. I'm incredulous that the SNP would struggle to organise a piss up in a brewery and yet keeps getting re-elected. In any well run country the government should be ensuring that the organisations using public money to provide public transport have plans drawn up a long time in advance to maintain and from time to time replace vessels, trains, buses and infrastructure, and it's the government's job to find the money for all of this. It's pretty clear the SNP wasn't interested in this boring bread and butter stuff. They've utterly cocked up the process of commissioning new ferries, wasted god only knows how much public money and failed to get them delivered until years after the original deadline (one still being built even now). They've failed to ensure that Ardrossan harbour was even kept in good repair, never mind upgraded for the new ferries. They've failed to agree a purchase price to get it back from Peel Ports. They've overseen a de facto switch from Ardrossan to Troon in spite of the fact that for foot passengers this is massively inconvenient and for everybody this is a longer journey to and from Brodick.

This is just one symptom of how incompetent they are. If I still lived in Scotland I could vote them out. As it is I just have to cross my fingers and hope that others will do it next year.

The SNP are appalling bad at managing transport issues.
