Special afternoon tea

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend somewhere really, really lovely for afternoon tea for my Mum’s 80th?
Preferably in the Glasgow area, with perhaps a private space for 11 people.
I think we are so used to all the itison afternoon teas and we really want something extra special!

Thanks!

The Sherbrooke Castle on the Southside is lovely. I think they have a semi-private area. They seem to have a proper pastry chef because they do so many weddings. It’s right up my elderly mother’s street. Attentive service with an old fashioned feel.

O, hadn’t thought of there! Thank you.

What about the willow tearooms? I believe they have a private space.

Highly recommend Mackintosh at the Willow on Sauchiehall Street (owned by the Scottish National Trust and totally separate from the willow tea rooms)

Fully restored to its former glory, if you do their Salon de Lux afternoon tea (with or without champagne) you get entry into the exhibition telling the story of Mackintosh and Cranston, alongside Glasgows history. Then the afternoon tea is in the Salon de lux, a reproduction of where the well to do ladies of the time would have had tea. A guide takes you through the room and its history, and the food is superb, as are the staff. I’ve done it twice, once for older family member birthday and once with friends and wouldn’t hesitate to return!

Edited to say the room is quite small so you’d be in with a fair chance of being able to be the only ones there, though it seats more than you need if you see what I mean.
