I've lived in Ardrossan and Stevenson. Dodgy areas in both, and not exactly thriving busy shopping areas. Schools, well, we didn't have children but the local.ones don't get a fantastic report.
The beach in Ardrossan is lovely, and there are lovely places to go nearby. They are very commutable to Glasgow.
If you are happy to report crime and dodgy council tenants, to stand up for yourself you'll do well. Not so if a sponge.
A good community feel for those wishing to engage.
Good luck if you come down.

My sister & her family lives in Saltcoats. They love it. They're only minutes from the beach and everything is within walking distance. They do, obviously, stay down at the front of the town I think they're just one street back from the beach.

My niece & nephew both went to high school in Stevenson, both did very well and are now at uni

They made the move to Saltcoats a couple of years ago now and have never regretted it

Look further afield at Irvine or Troon.
