Moving to Ayrshire?

Hello,
Myself, partner, and 2 children (age 3 and 2) are looking to move from Southampton up to Ayrshire. Can anyone please advise on nice areas? We want somewhere with a nice community vibe, friendly people, and good schools for the children.
Also which are the towns/villages best to avoid?

Hi, Ayrshire is surpringly big (3 local authorities). It’s a mixture of very rural and some towns. A lot of East Ayrshire villages , especially the old mining areas , can be insular but housing is cheaper. Depending on where you want to be areas such as Stewarton or Kilmaurs near Kilmarnock are becoming more desirable. In south Ayrshire you have the areas around Troon and Prestwick. North Ayrshire has some nice bits including Largs, Seamill etc but some parts of Stevenson, Ardrossan etc have a bit of a reputation.
In reality it just depends on where on Ayrshire you need to be for work and how close to transport links. Like anywhere there is good and bad. Most people are friendly though!

Largs is probably best for incomers.

Most of the recommendations you get will probably be for Largs or Troon.

Purely because these are the more affluent towns and are the places where you’re most likely to have higher numbers of newcomers.

Of these, Troon in my opinion would be the best for families.

Easier access to Glasgow and other main towns like Kilmarnock/Ayr for when they are teenagers.

Due to having the highest achieving school in Ayrshire there are more families there and it has amazing sports clubs for kids to get involved in.

Largs feels a bit more stale, high proportion of pensioners and due to the road access being pretty poor it feels more remote.

Another vote for Largs. Seamill or west kilbride also is getting a lot of development.
Take a look at turd towns on line to see where to avoid!
