Does anyone recognize this Edinburgh restaurant

A few years ago I went to an Italian restaurant in the University area which had the feel of an American diner. The food, particularly the pasta sauce was really lovely. I have totally forgotten the name and the exact location. Do any Edinburgh MNers recognize it? Thank you

Shouldibefedup · 25/05/2025 09:23

Bar Napoli is great for proper Italian but it’s on Hanover street, so probably not your one, but mentioning it cos it’s good 😊

Paolozzi - restaurant at the top of the Meadows?

Chemenger · 25/05/2025 09:25

Vittorio on the Bridge? On George IV Bridge.

It sounds like Taste Of Italy to me, but that is down near London Road, not the uni area.

Misspotterer · 25/05/2025 09:34

I thought Paolozzi too. Toni macaroni food is awful!

MustDust · 25/05/2025 09:49

When we first went to Tony Macaroni many years ago we loved it, but quality has definitely taken a nose dive.

Plump82 · 25/05/2025 09:51

Tony Macaroni is a chain as well. And rubbish!

inmyheadimthequeen · 25/05/2025 10:07

Bar Napoli is fab - agree it's unlikely to be that because of the geography but worth a visit!

Maryqueenofstots · 25/05/2025 10:10

I think it might be Isola - it’s out in the Southside where a lot of students live. It has a big diner style bar (it’s like it’s straight out of the 50s) and the food is great. Sardinian rather than British Italian.

Shouldibefedup · 25/05/2025 10:11

Yes, it’s well worth a trip. Agree with everyone else, Tony macaroni is an awful chain. MUCH better to support individual places. More interesting for a start!

thatone · 25/05/2025 10:32

Oh no! Really - that's a shame about TM.
Thank you all for the other places to try.

Agree with @Chemenger It could be Vittoria's on the Bridge.
