Scottish private maternity care

Does anyone have experience going private for maternity care in central Scotland? For second/third trimester and birth? Is that even available? I’m based near Glasgow but willing to travel, I’m just so fed up of my experiences with the NHS.

there isn’t really much point - if there are any problems they’ll punt you back to the NHS, and there aren’t any private delivery options in Scotland

what are you fed up about? You could hire a private doula?

I think you would need to go to England to go private for Labour and birth.

You might be able to hire a private midwife for a home birth though.

I did this. There are no private maternity units in Scotland so you need to go to London. I transferred my care very late on in the final trimester. I had my initial consultation via zoom and then went down for a further consultation and scan, we agreed a date for my section and I obviously went back down for this. I had to go in the day before the birth too. I’d highly recommend it. The post birth care I had was outstanding and I left the hospital so well rested which I believe contributed greatly to my fast recovery. I had a 6 week post birth consultation which I could have gone down for but I chose to have it via zoom. Your consultant is on call for you whenever you need them, via phone, email, whatever you like. It was so reassuring. I travelled from Edinburgh and it was a simple direct train and then the underground. On the way back I took a taxi to the kings x. I never had any issues with the journey. I’d do it again in a heartbeat if we have another child.

Nothing in Scotland…I looked into this too…maternity care in Scotland, in particular birth care is appalling. If you can afford it go to London. Both my births in ERI were pretty horrible. Roasting hot, not enough staff, noisy wards (SO SO noisy), men staying overnight in shared wards and snoring their heads off or arguing with their wives, watching TV on their phones full blast and pissing all over the toilet seats. Staff seemed unwilling or unable to intervene. I’d love to say I’m exaggerating but it was torture.

I can recommend the midwife unit at Perth Royal Infirmary. It’s like a hotel and midwives are fabulous.
