Edinburgh Napier—Bainfield accommodation?

DD has a conditional offer to study at Napier this year. We were at the open day yesterday and got to see the accommodation at Bainfield. It was OK, but the surrounding area seemed run down. So I have some questions, if anyone can help..

  • is Bainfield safe?
  • What about the area? Is it safe enough walking around in the evening?
  • how good is the bus service? She’d be spending her time between the Merchiston and Craiglockhart campuses
  • How easy is it to travel into the city centre? I’m thinking about nights out, in particular
  • also, what is Napier like as a uni?
  • how good is the support for dyslexic students?

That accommodation is in a very studenty and young professionals renting sort of area, it’s perfectly safe. Buses in Edinburgh are excellent but she could walk into the city centre from there, check routes on www.lothianbuses.com

Scratching my head slightly on where you got "run down" from. Maybe if you approach from certain streets in Polwarth. It's along the road from me and next door to my son's school. Totally safe. Maybe wouldn't walk along canal alone late at night (after dark yes, just not in the middle of the night)
but I walk home alone in the early hours in the surrounding streets, no problem. Easy walk into town for nightlife. 15 minute walk to Merchiston, if that. Decent buses to Craiglockhart.

Don't know much about Napier.
