Glasgow Pothole Claim

Hello Mumsnet,

Looking for advice from some of you clever clogs as I feel am hitting my head against the wall.

Last year when driving around Glasgow, the car hit a pothole, there was no way I could safely avoid it. The result was direct damage to the car and my needing taxis to get to work (public transport option not available).

I have started a claim with the council and boy do they drag their feet. I have been able to directly provide proof for the car repairs, but the taxi company say they don't have the man power to pull out an itemised bill that Glasgow Council require. They have provided me with a sum total which I have passed on. Other methods such as text confirmation (which I dont always get), Bank statements (not precise as sometimes the fund are cleared at a later point and no indication of where the journey was from and to etc).

Moreover, I feel if I have provided the sum total proof from the taxi company itself which was the cost incurred to me, then surely that should suffice.

Any advice on how to get around this would be gratefully appreciated.

I'm surprised they're even entertaining it. Councils only have a duty to perform occasional inspections, not to ensure flawless roads at all times.

Have the council engaged with you and confirmed liability?

Im aware of successful claims for damages but have never heard of taxi claims being covered.

Good on you for trying though.

They have engaged yes and asked for evidence that has already been given. Not sure if that counts as meaningful engagement. I feel post COVID roads nationwide have fallen into disrepair.

Btw- love your username Meeplemakeglasgow!

Councils have no money so yeah, good luck. I wouldn't have the brass neck to submit a claim for something like this myself.
