Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone is aware of any parents’ group for Loretto School in Mussleburgh?

Hi everyone — quick question for parents: did anyone here apply for George Heriot’s Nursery in the last couple of years and find out their child did notget a place (i.e., put on a waiting list or declined)? I’m asking to understand how the waiting list / offers work and what the chances are of being allocated a place if you’re on the waiting list. Thanks .

Nursery of offered first come, first served.

Chances of getting a place now depends on someone pulling out, so always a possibility but I wouldn’t count on it.

Doesn’t mean you won’t get a place for P1 though, as P1 is now massively undersubscribed (although it wouldn’t surprise me if they cut a class and went down to 2 classes)

Thanks @Ginny98 , good to hear that P1 could be a possibility. We were told to apply for nursery just a couple of weeks ago by the admissions office and then quickly got a letter after to say they are over subscribed. My partner seems to think that I said something at the meeting that may have compromised our chances of being offered a place as they were willing to meet with us and show us round for a prospective place for next year in nursery so he was surprised that the rejection letter came in so quick. I have been riddled with guilt ever since…thank you for your reply :)

Yeah, they got a lot of publicity recently when they were named the second best nursery in Edinburgh, so I’d imagine they had a flurry of applications around that time.

They also prioritise siblings so it could be they received a few sibling applications after yours.

Since VAT was introduced there have been spaces in P1, so P1 definitely still an option.

Thats interesting about the p1 spaces. Do you know how far up the primary the spaces are continuing? We are considering heriots for the future but not sure at what point.

It's the immediate impact of VAT - the P3s and above, who started before VAT was introduced, are full.

The current P2s saw some withdrawals in 2024, after VAT was announced (I think maybe 6?), but I think they filled those for the start of P2.

The applications for the current P1s were way down, and the classes aren't anything like full.

If they keep 3 P1 classes, it looks like getting in at P1 will be much easier, but those spaces aren't yet filtering up to other years. I'd guess that a lot of people are choosing to start later, so would expect those spaces to fill up in a few years (demand at P6 and P7 is still high, and the Senior School roll is full with a waiting list).

When you say, “they were willing to meet with us and show us round for a prospective place for next year in nursery”, do you mean starting August 2026?

If so, you may find like with all nurseries in Edinburgh there will be a lot of movement over the year. People will have names down at multiple, but can obviously only take up one place. If it’s August 2026 you’re looking at, I’d just call admissions monthly to check what the list is looking like so they know you are serious.

Also, I seriously doubt it was anything you said! ❤️ Much more likely people overzealously signing up!

Thank you @FunnyOrca ! yes it was for august 2026!
