Thanks!

I'd say charr-ing.

RunnerDown · 30/01/2025 19:25

OffOnOurHols · 30/01/2025 19:27

It is Cha-ring Cross.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/01/2025 19:28

I pronounce it the same way as Charing Cross, London - Cha-ring Cross (with a short ‘a’).

nolaandme · 30/01/2025 19:29

Neither, Cha-ring

bungobungobungo · 30/01/2025 19:30

I'm Glaswegian - Charing, like barring.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 30/01/2025 19:31

Have never heard anyone say chair-ing!

Glaswegian here it's Char-ing, rhymes with barring.
Nobody says chair-ing unless you're one of those who puts their rubbish in rubbish secks 😳

Chairing? As in chairing a meeting? No.

Definitely not.

titchy · 30/01/2025 21:37

How are you pronouncing barring though? Bar as in where you drink with 'ing' or as in the first syllable of Harrogate with 'ing?

Radionowhere · 30/01/2025 21:38

Cha-ring. But my posh gran says chair-ing 😂

Bar that you drink in or first syllable of Harrogate sound the same, surely?

It's char, rhymes with car/bar/har/far/mar, ing cross

SaltAndVinegarRiceCake · 30/01/2025 21:50

Char- ring like cha cha cha.

But I also say Holyrood like Hole-y rood, and all the tv people say Holly - rood and it annoys me.

Poshjock · 30/01/2025 22:03

Is this because Sally Magnusson mangled it on the Scottish news tonight?

Talulahalula · 30/01/2025 22:06

Cha-ring like cha-cha with a short a as someone above said.

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 30/01/2025 22:14

Bar has a long ‘a’ and the first syllable of Harrogate a short ‘a’, so they don’t sound the same?

How are you making Harrogate sound like bar?

It isn't Haarrogate. It's a short a sound.
