Looking for some advice from my Celtic sisters!

We’re hoping to bring DD (2) and DS (5) to Scotland from Wales for a week in late August. We’d fly up but can borrow a car on arrival.

DH’s parents live near Falkirk so ideally somewhere within an hour / 90mina drive of there for easy visiting.

Looking for self catering with easy access to beach / loch side, on site play park and a few
kid friendly excursions.

Forestry cabins at Loch Lubnaig seem pretty good. DH went as a kid but looks like they’ve had a glow up since….

if any one had further suggestions, I’d be delighted to hear them.

TIA x

A slight word of warning:
At the end of August it can be quite autumnal in a strange way. Schools will have gone back here and it may not be what you are expecting.

Falkirk wheel and the kelpies are amongst my favourite things to see in Scotland.

In August, best be prepared for midges with smidge to discourage them and a head bet each just in case.

Late August is a great time to visit, the Scottish schools will be back so it will be quieter, and the weather tends to be lovely.

The lodges at Loch Lubnaig are great (get one with a hot tub), and a good base. Lots to do in the Trossachs/Stirling/Falkirk.

You could base yourself in Aberfoyle, the Forest Hills place at Kinlochard, access to lochs, playparks, forest trails, Loch Katrine steamer and bike hire or even go to somewhere like Aberdour with great beach, trains to Edinburgh, Deep Sea World at North Queensferry, travel to the east Neuk of Fife and still be less than an hour to Falkirk.

Moness Resort in Aberfeldy is lovely. Within easy reach of a lot of central Scotland.

Had a really relaxing break here last summer:

It was last minute and we were really pleasantly surprised.

Shamelessly following this as we have similar requirements. I didn't realise the Scottish kids went back so early!

English schools go back so late! Our schools break up at the end of June.

Summer is earlier in Scotland so school holidays are end of June- mid august.
Late August can start to feel autumnal
