We are a Scottish family living in France.
My DS (born in NZ, lived in France since 5 months, Scottish parents and family) is going on his first solo holiday with (girl) friend in February. They will both be 17, and for both of them it’s their first trip without parents. They will be flying into Edinburgh, spending 3 nights in a hostel in the city centre, then going to their respective grandparents for 3-4 nights, in Fife / Perthshire. They have both spent a lot of family holidays in Edinburgh / Fife / Perthshire, so they know it quite well. But they are young, so we want them to have a plan of what they will likely do, so we can budget and help them plan accordingly.
Can you give me ideas of suitable activities for them? Both are 17, and don’t drink / are underage so pubs are out. Both are quite sporty. Both like touristy things (they are planning to do the castle, camera obscura, Edinburgh dungeons). They are going to go to the national museum, but aren’t keen on anything arty.
We thought they could do a 1 or more day backpacker bus tour - Loch Lomond or Loch Ness - but not sure that minors travelling alone would be allowed to join such a trip 🤷♀️
all ideas gratefully received.
