East Renfrewshire in year school move

Hi, moving into east ren council soon. Does anyone have any information on how quickly places are allocated for in-year primary placements?

I know I apply within 4 weeks of moving and find out if we have a provisional place shortly thereafter, but then I have to submit documentation post move and wait for formal confirmation and instructions on enrolment with the school - any idea if we are talking a couple of days or weeks for this process? Asking here as council take a long time to respond to questions!

Thanks!

I'd apply asap, it can take a while. Lots of schools primary & secondary are oversubscribed for many year groups. You may not be offered a place at your catchment school initially. I know of several families who have ended up with kids at different schools & taken a couple of yrs to get siblings all in 1 place. ERC move slowly compared to some other councils.

Thank you! When I contacted the council they said they’d automatically reject my application if I applied earlier than 4 weeks before moving, but that they will confirm a provisional place within 5 days of submission - hoping that’s true, but with Xmas hols coming up I’m not too hopeful. Nightmare if we end up with split places, eek!

It really depends which school, my stepson is in P5 at one of the larger schools and when places have become available they have been filled with catchment kids who were sent to other schools temporarily.

No idea how many kids are on the waiting list.

Smaller ones like St Joes and Giffnock are less likely to have places than the newer ones such as St Clare’s and Maidenhill.

In general though despite popular opinion most schools in ER have allocated catchment places, it’s just a few in the Eastwood area that struggle.
