Hello all,

We have a 14 year old staying with us over Christmas and would like to do some fun things with them, however I've only recently moved to Scotland so not sure what. We went to the Alpine rollercoaster last week which was great fun, I considered go karting at Knockhill but it's closed.

Any suggestions within an hour of Dunfermline would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

I’m struggling a bit for Fife ideas - unless they like coastal walks and fish and chips! but in Edinburgh Mary King’s Close went down well with a teenage visitor lately. Stirling escape rooms are popular. Dundee for the V&A?

Have a look at some of the theatres, Dunfermline, Perth, Stirling, Edinburgh Glasgow and St Andrews would all be in your distance window.

Ice skating and hot chocolate at Edinburgh winter wonderland

Panto at the Adam Smith theatre? (too old at 14?)

Edinburgh city centre - ice skating, go on the star flyer.

if any good films on, go to the Everyman cinema and get a bit to eat in St James quarter. There’s a bowling alley there too. Pho is a good option for food.

Go on one of the ghost walks or visit Mary kings close.

Tickets for the panto at the festival theatre if any still available.

Christmas lights at the Castle or Botanic Gardens.

Oh, the irn bru carnival in Glasgow!

What sorts of things do they like? The Nutcracker will be on in Glasgow if they might like ballet, loads of pantos, Treasure Island at the Lyceum in Edinburgh...

My daughter (12) loves things like Ninja Warrior and various other climbing. Ice skating either in one of the Christmas markets or various ice skating rinks?

My kids both love Bonnie & Wild at St James Centre in Edinburgh and there's a dessert-only restaurant in the centre that we just went to for the first time and they loved it. There's bowling and mini golf, etc, etc there too - and the cinema is lovely. And obviously all the shopping - loads of fashion things but also the Lego store.

Thank you for all of these, I'm going to google them all.

He would not like the theatre or panto (unfortunately, I do!)

Might be a bit too young for him but there's a special winter sailing of the Maid of the Forth from S Queensferry, and a winter festival type set up at Dalkeith country park. The festive lights at the Botanics are great - need to book well in advance, The Orchard pub is a great dinner option nearby
