Family Tartan Scarf

TartanHelp · 19/10/2024 11:00

Hello,

I hope this is the right place to put this.

A family member registered a family tartan on the Register of Tartans in 2017.

I would like to get my mum a scarf in this tartan for Christmas. Where is the best place for me to order the scarf from? And how do I go about doing so?

Many thanks

The Scottish Register of Tartans website has a page on Scottish designers and weavers, if that's any help.

I have had a look and some of the names match with a quick google search. But there's quite a few companies and not sure which are better than others

They don't have the tartan on the website on the scroll down list but might contact the company

Thank you

Just tried an other supplier which came up in a google search and was on that list on the tartan register, and they said they didn't have access to the tartan.

Maybe contacting the designer of your tartan or the family member who registered it would give some information about who would weave it for you. I can’t imagine custom production of tartan would come cheap.

Yeah might send an email to them . They have had kilts made up with it.

If you have a fairly big budget you could contact some textile Mills and order bespoke. E.g my sons kilt was £500 as it wasn't an off the shelf tartan.

Try Googling 'Locharron' mill as a starting point.

I looked at Locharron earlier, and I was impressed. Might give them a ring. Thank you

The Scotland Shop have a very large selection of tartans. I bought some scarves from there last year that were a non standard tartan and was impressed at how quickly they provided them.

As a pp said, The Scotland Shop should be able to get a hold of the tartan and make one for you.

Will contact the Scotland shop. Thank you
