I’m going to be staying at the Premier Inn on George Square in Glasgow. Can anyone recommend a nice Italian restaurant (not too pricey) nearby?

Paesano for pizza or Sugo for pasta.

We went here last weekend... https://www.theitaliancaffe.co.uk/
Delicious, authentic and really good value. Not far from George Sq. Buen appetito 😁

The Italian Caffe – Glasgow's First Enoteca Restaurant.

I'd second The Italian Coffee! Also recommend Sartis Bath Street, Barolo and Santa Lucia Pasta.

Edited for spelling mistake.

La Vita is on George Square. Traditional, family run, usual Italian menu. Nothing out of this world but reliable, good food and service

EternallyIrked · 11/10/2024 15:32

You also have The Italian Kitchen, Santa Lucia or Amore - all on Ingram Street, a 5 mins walk from George Sq.

Can recommend La Lanterna on Hope Street -lovely food

SheGotOffThePlane · 11/10/2024 18:55

I love La Lanterna, it's streets ahead of La Vita etc.

MathsFiend · 11/10/2024 18:56

A lot of the ones mentioned are quite "old school" Italians. As a PP mentioned, Sugo is great for pasta and Paesano for pizza

MathsFiend · 11/10/2024 18:57

I would say go to La Lanterna if you like your pasta soft rather than al dente

AgnesX · 11/10/2024 18:59

Sanno on Bell Street, really good pizza

southsidegal · 11/10/2024 20:04

Paesano is great pizza but it's not the most relaxing experience. No bookings, super popular and fast turnaround. Elbow to elbow with next table.

If that's ok with you though it would be my top choice for a solo dinner that's great value and lovely food served quickly near George square.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I’ll take a look through them all.

sounds grim 🤣

I'll second La Vita - have always enjoyed my meal there.

Amore Ingram street is leaps and bounds ahead of La vita for a traditional type Italian.

I was very disappointed in La lanterna. My friends rave about it but it was just a bit meh.

paesano and sugo are great reasonable food but quick turn around if you are eg shopping, pre theatre etc. More modern menu too. Sarti is very good, more traditional.

I haven’t been for a while but Italian friends like piccolo mondo which is near central. Very old school again. A trip to the east end has Coias, very well known or my own reference out that was Celinos.

For top notch Italian influenced food you won’t do any better than celentanos at the cathedral. It’s beyond any of the others, they have their own hives for honey etc as an example but it’s not pizza pasta.

SingingSands · 16/10/2024 16:06

I've had a few melas at Mediterraneo on Ingram Street and it was really nice food, good cocktails and wine.

There's loads of Italians in Glasgow, and most of them are good so hopefully you'll land happy 😃

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/10/2024 17:54

I'm really not a fan of La Vita. La Lanterna is my favourite.
