George Watsons Pre-School

I just wanted to know if any other pre-school is asking for wipes to be sent with the child for any accidents they might have. I find it absolutely shocking that a school charging £17k a year is asking parents for wipes for accidents. I absolutely don’t mind because it hardly costs £5 but the fact that they are asking for wipes in a preschool setting is ludicrous!

Both private nurseries I used for ds's asked us to provide wipes (and nappies if needed) and we could provide food ourselves or meals were charged as extra too.

I'd just send in a box of 12 packs of wipes and they'd let me know when they were nearly finished.

The fees were more than yours and this was 6-10 year ago. I'd say very normal and to be expected.

We are in a private nursery very nearby and they provide everything. Fees are £74 a day

StSwithinsDay · 03/10/2024 22:04

a school charging £17k a year

So £46 per day (for 365 days per year). That seems cheap.

Private nursery, £90pd, all inclusive inc wipes

It’s odd for a pre-school to ask for wipes as the kids are usually not in a nappy at that age anymore. What do they need them for?

Cardoc2021 · 04/10/2024 01:55

@StSwithinsDay - It's for term time and not for 365 days a year and that's beside the point

@Callisto1 No child is in a nappy but accidents do happen unfortunately and regression is a thing. I would expect preschool settings to cater to that and be more supportive to the child. As a parent you're doing your best to train and remind the child.

Term time only is 190 days, so around £90 per day. It's the high end for fees in Edinburgh but not ridiculously so.

What's a few packets of wipes? It's not a huge inconvenience is it? Some children's skin reacts to different brands so it may be easier for parents to provide.

Pre-school fees at GWC aren't £17k though? Not sure if it's relevant to the question but people are quoting what that is per day when pre-school fees are actually £12k.

I work in early years and if we have children in nappies still the parents usually provide nappies and wipes. If they don't we do have a supply we can use.

If a child has a toileting accident then we have wipes etc to help clean them up. Most provide their own clothes but we have a supply.

It is a LA nursery not far from GWC.

Must be new…both our kids went to the preschool at GWC and I was never asked to provide wipes.
