No, been to Crieff Hydro which is great for small kids and relaxing. Unfortunately dp thinks it is a ‘cultural vacuum’ so not sure if we can go back there

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/09/2024 07:54

we found Crieff Hydro disappointing. Tired, Very bog standard food.

Theaspidistraiswilting · 17/09/2024 07:56

We went and loved it - it's a bit tired but the staff were lovely, room was very nice and the kids just went about on their own. Food not great but there are a couple of ok restaurants in the town.

PurpleDonkey22 · 17/09/2024 08:30

Thanks all. Does Peebles Hydro have any entertainment for children or is it just the pool?

Been to Crieff - just fancied a change

There are some activities for children you can do but nowhere near as much as Crieff. We only did mini-Landrovers and then went to Glentress for some mountain biking (DS is 12). The pool is miles better than Crieff but the food at Peebles (other than breakfast) I found inedible, so we had to make our way to Peebles town centre to find something decent.

For the kids there is pool, mini golf, tennis, giant chess. There is also a kids club that has activities like den building, archery etc as well as a load of crafts and games. the kids club staff are absolutely fantastic.

Peebles Hydro is fantastic- there's loads to do for the kids. You can hire bikes and ride around some lovely off road trails. Indoor swimming pool. Escape room in the gardens. Llama walking. Ducks. Tennis. Entertainment in the evening. Lovely cocktail bar with mocktails and the adult versions!
A good place to visit is Traquair House nearby.
We went there as a big group for my Mum's significant birthday with grandchildren, uncles etc in tow. Lovely big dining room, good service and food
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!!

Carrotmccarrotface · 17/09/2024 13:15

It’s a bit more tired than Crieff and has fewer hydro run activities but there is more to do outwith the hydro than in Crieff. The biking is incredible.

PurpleDonkey22 · 17/09/2024 20:50

So helpful, thanks everyone. Good to know Peebles has evening entertainment too.

Are the rooms okay, and quiet enough for a decent night's sleep?

Peebles itself looks lovely.

Auchrannie on Arran wins over both Peebles and Crieff Hydro for me for this sort of holiday

Oh, that's good to know. Does it have things for older children as well as little ones?

With Arran though you will obviously be dependent on the ferry running which makes it a bit unsettling. Our ferry coming home in the summer holidays broke down and we had to queue for over 2 hours at Lochranza to get the alternative ferry back to mainland. Then we had about a 3 hour drive up by Loch Fyne and Inveraray to get back to Glasgow area. Shame because Arran is gorgeous.

Sunbeam18 · 18/09/2024 12:24

Yes, its so lovely. Great swimming pools, and archery, quad biking etc. I just love Arran; true about the ferry though.

PurpleDonkey22 · 19/09/2024 07:22

Hmmm, yes that does put me off Arran a little which is a pity as have been to the island before and it was lovely.

Might just give Peebles a go. Thanks everyone 😊
