Tram to Edinburgh airport

Hi everyone, I'm going on holiday next week and have decided to take a train into Edinburgh (park station I think?) and then get a tram to the airport. I've never taken a tram before, do I need to pre-purchase a ticket or can I just buy one when I arrive? Do they take very long to get to the airport? Just thinking of timings...

Thanks for any advice.

You can purchase a ticket on the tram platform. I think it's 3.50 for a single. It takes about 35 mins from central Edinburgh to the airport. Have fun!

Oh that's good thanks! I think the trip will be quicker than that though as it's just from Edinburgh park, I think 15 mins max? Get me there in time :)

You must buy a tram ticket on the platform before boarding the tram. There are ticket machines, very easy to use. I’ve occasionally seen passengers without tickets being asked to leave the tram at the next station, buy a ticket then board the following tram. There’s no way to buy a ticket once you’re on the tram.

At the airport the tram stops directly outside the departures hall, so very convenient.

Hello - it’s a higher fare to go to the airport, but yes, you can buy at machines on platform if you don’t have the app.

Purchase the ticket on the platform. Don’t get on the tram without one though cause they’ll Chuck you off. You can’t buy once your on. There’s signs to remind you not to do that though. Have a great holiday 😊

Oh that's fine thank you I'll make sure I get one before I jump on. Thanks, can't wait! :)

I'd recommend getting the app and buying it in advance - otherwise you sometimes have to miss a tram as you can step on without using the machine so have to let it go. Only downside of the app seems to be can't buy separate kids tickets but can get a family day one.

Just make sure you buy your ticket from the machine before you board. They run fairly regularly 3-10 minutes. It's a nice wee journey.

I do this often- dead easy!

Tram stop is just outside Edinburgh Park train station. Ticket is 7.50. Takes 12-15 minutes. 2 minute walk from tram terminus to airport building.

Have a great holiday!
