Beatson accommodation

Hi apart from the hotel next to the Beatson can anyone recommend a hotel or self catering apartment that I could maybe get an Uber to and from. Too exhausting to do the daily drive which is a 3 hour round trip in scary Glasgow traffic!!

When is it for? If it's before end of September what about university accommodation? https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/accommodation/contact/

Or one of the hotels around Finnieston and get the train? Village Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Radisson Red, Campanile, Premier Inn?

Hotel wise there's a few Premier inn type hotels in the city centre. Raddison Red is on the south side opposite the Hydro.

Most patients having treatment at Beatson stay at the Leonardo hotel next to it as it's so convenient, although I think it's pretty basic. Is that not an option?
Otherwise any Glasgow hotel is within taxi distance, take your pick! If you want luxury then One Devonshire Gardens is just up the road, within walking distance.
Crown plaza hotel is pretty close.

Have a look anywhere up and down the train line that goes through hyndland - the beatson is a short walk from the station & you go past the good cafe on that side (really recommend)

Telemichus · 27/07/2024 23:12

Also check out the maggies centre at the back of the main hospital.

Pepperama · 27/07/2024 23:15

Some nice airbnbs in the area too - might be a bit cheaper than hotels if that’s a consideration.

Telemichus · 28/07/2024 06:46

As an example, Premier inn at milngavie is fine, it’s less than ten minutes walk from milngavie station and is direct to Hyndland.
there are (or at least there used to be ) also a couple of b&bs around broomhill/jordanhill again short walk across the railway & you’re there. Or very quick taxi if you weren’t feeling the walk

I've stayed at the Leonardo West End - it's really not bad. Rooms have been clean and a decent size - also parking is free and it's a 10min walk to the station or there are buses along Gt Western Rd.

Didn't eat there so can't say what the food is like

I would strongly recommend a visit to the Maggie's Centre, they are helpful, practical people who I'm sure will have some good suggestions. (If you haven't seen it, it's over the other side of the Beatson car park behind some trees - it took me ages to realise it was there!)

ButtSurgery · 28/07/2024 09:37

Speak to the Beatson - they have volunteer drivers available for exactly this reason. My DM was there for radiotherapy earlier this year for a number of weeks but we're lucky to have a huge family so we shared the driving (I took a week off to go up to visit). Our daily journey was about 1.5hrs each way door to door as well.

We met the volunteers every day and all their lovely patients. Well worth exploring.

Maggies are wonderful, please make sure you visit them, so supportive.

Telemichus · 29/07/2024 07:17

Am going to reiterate the tea bar it’s the station side of the beats on, not the maggies side & it’s very good.

also if you aren’t too fatigued & need a hit of green the grounds of the hospitals are very nice - if you go into the old gartnavel royal grounds there’s also the old physic garden which is very peaceful & a little sun trap.

Do a google on Glasgow student accommodation, you can often rent rooms in the private halls / flats type places such as Unite Students during the summer breaks. They sometimes appear on booking.com too.

@Telemichus thanks for those, can't walk too far but jiggt see about hiring Alloa wheelchair or something.
@MiddleAgedDread thank you, will Google those too!
