Dentists in/near Edinburgh for terrified teen.

Dd has been waiting over a year to be seen at the dental hospital as she needs a tooth removed and work on her front teeth due to damage caused by severe sickness (constant for hours and bike/stomach acid comes up) caused by hemiplegic migraines. She has a small mouth and struggles to get the toothbrush properly to the back and has a bad gag reflex.
Her dentist referred her to either be put out or get iv sedation to get the work done.
Because we have waited so long she’s now over 16 and the dental hospital won’t see her and instead she was given to public dental service.
They tried nasel sedation which didn’t work and that dentist was quite frankly aggressive with her. And threatened to send her to adult services who she claimed will not fix her teeth, they will take them all out.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a private dentist that could help ?
Her own dentist is lovely but is nhs and doesn’t do sedation. He did recommend sunrise dental but they are mega expensive and looking at their prices it’s probably going to be about £10 grand !

Ochilview Dental and Oral Surgery, Armadale. Took 5 teeth out for my daughter under sedation. They were great.

My friend who moved to Glasgow years ago still comes through to Dunfermline to see her dentist, a Mr Chong, if that's any help. I don't know his address though, sorry.

Hope Park Dental Practice. And make sure they know the patient is terrified.

I use Southside Dental care in Newington. Extremely impressed with them and they use IV sedation.

Oh wow, that sounds terrible. I've had a couple of bad experiences with dentists, but I now go to Integrated Dentalcare in Edinburgh West End (near Haymarket station). I love this place because they really take care of me. They're very patient and understanding of my nerves when I sit in the chair—and I can be a lot to deal with at times lol.

Sunrise Dental in Edinburgh gets amazing reviews and specialises in scared patients. It’s often recommended in related situations in Edinburgh FB groups.

Sunrise Dentists in Corstorphine get good reviews. Libi seems to have a great manner to help anyone with a fear.

Would not recommend Chong Kwan for someone scared of dentists, unless it has changed dramatically in last 18 months. It was fine for our needs but very much a basic NHS service and not caring or customer service oriented (ie no waiting room).

We’ve decided to go with sunrise dental. First appointment available is October though with dr.libi.
Really hoping they can fix her teeth and be kind to her.

I see you’ve already decided on one, but I was going to suggest Southside Dental too. I used to be terrified of the dentist, but have been going there with no issues for around 18 years now. They’re really quite lovely and patient focused and seem to offer a lot of specialist services.

HayNo · 06/08/2024 23:34

My daughter has started going to Southside and she’s no longer scared of the dentist since moving there. We also considered Sunrise

An update to this.
So far sunrise dental has been amazing with DD. They realised her tooth enamel has begun to demineralise so she was always going to have problems even if she brushed all the time.
DD so far has had 4 teeth repaired using their ‘happy gas’ to sedate her and the experience has been very positive for her
Still got more work to get done but I am very happy with the way she has been treated by the staff there.

I would highly recommend them.
