Looking for opinions on what is a reasonable budget for a student self catering in Edinburgh, excluding accommodation. Anyone?

My youngest has managed fine on £75 per week. Has payg phone and free bus pass. Not a big drinker/clubber. Buys 2nd hand clothes. No expensive sport costs. Not in a rich friendship group helps too.

it'll depend what their accommodation includes - some of the "halls of residence" type self catering includes all utility bills and internet etc but if they're in a room in a privately rented flat they'll have to pick up that cost between whoever lives there.
Then food will depend what sort of thing they're cooking and where they're shopping (there's a big price difference between Aldi and the local versions of Tesco / Sainsburys or the corner shop).
If they need public transport (although should be able to get one of those free passes) then weekly / monthly / annual prices are on lothian buses website.
Socialising could be anything from £0 a month to hundreds given where some seem to eat and drink!

DDs utility share has averaged £40 per month this year (not Edi as she's on a placement yes but similar type old tenement flat).

Thanks all. I know it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but useful to see your thoughts and roughly how much bills and day to day subsistence is costing. A good point too about who they are mixing with!
