TRNSMT transport fail

Anyone else off into Glasgow to collect kids from TRNSMT tonight? It's been an absolute disaster with Scotrail cancelling all later trains, and no buses running after the finish time either.

It's been very badly handled / publicised in my opinion - nothing on TRNSMTs social media until after most of the kids would have been in the arena today. Really worried there will be lots of kids stuck in Glasgow city centre tonight!
And not overjoyed for myself since I'm due in work before 8am tomorrow and won't be home until around 1am.

Shocking, saw this on social media this afternoon. It said ScotRail was running an emergency service whatever that means.

Anyone know why Gerry Cinnamon’s set isn’t available on iPlayer?

Basically they need overtime to run their usual timetable and drivers are working to rule and refusing to do overtime as part of a pay dispute. Given a lot of the kids there are under 18 it's really not great.

I saw Scotrail mention it a few times on their social media in the last week especially after the announcement that they were cutting services.

Auntieobem · 14/07/2024 22:22

We'd planned on getting train last week to Hozier gig, but were warned the day before about limited services so made alternative arrangements. Scotrail have been warning all week not to depend on trains after the event. It's a shit service, but wasn't a surprise.

WeAllHaveWings · 15/07/2024 00:26

Ds had the same problem with some last trains cancelled a couple of years ago and they were all left stranded.

There were lots of his friends/school year had gone and were stuck, we drove up both our cars to pick some up.

Misthios · 15/07/2024 08:01

To be fair to Trnsmt, its not their fault. The date for the festival has been set for months if not years, they have zero control over what Scotrail do.The train service is shite and has been unreliable for years, so many times I have got on a train at Central only to hear "this service will be terminating at Hyndland". Trying to run a railway based on staff who have to do overtime to provide a service is lunacy.

The festival is not in the middle of a field somewhere with trains as the only option, there are buses too.

Toooldforthis36 · 15/07/2024 08:04

This is down to Scotrail and the Scottish governments abysmal record of delivering public services. Not trnsmt’s fault, people should have made arrangements for their travel - if you have no way of getting home, maybe don’t go?

motheronthedancefloor · 15/07/2024 08:09

Need to put responsibility on parents too - make sure your weans have phones and phone chargers (so they can phone for help) and money (for bus or taxi).

DH drove in every night to pick up DD and some of her friends and of course she had the aforementioned phone/charger/money.

Didn't Scotrail staff agree (generous?) pay increases fairly recently? Mind you, that could have been 2 + years but it feels fairly recent to me.

5% in what was a very high inflationary period - I wouldn't call that generous. ScotGov trying to tie public services into 3 year 2% pay deals. Nobody would accept a 3 year pay deal, madness. What if inflation hits 5% each year? You can't have gold standard public services and not pay for them.

Finally got home just before 2am! Getting out of Glasgow was difficult, felt like rush hour.

I don’t blame TRNSMT for the ScotRail issues (and ScotRail could obviously only do what they could with the drivers available) but I do think they should have been much more proactive in letting ticket holders know the issues. I fortunately follow ScotRail on social media so was aware of the potential disruption from earlier on in the week, but none of the other parents I contacted had seen anything. The kids had looked on the app when they made their plans, and until well into Saturday there was still an advertised late Sunday train for us; I’m sure they knew it woudn‘t be running well before then.

Anyway, they all had a blast and I got to listen to a whole load of bad singing all the way down the road, so all was fine in the end.
Mildly irritating to see all the adverts today for extra services for the Open though!

I'm not sure the official reason but the sound was awful, really difficult to hear him so it may be to do with that

Interesting. Thanks.

Toooldforthis36 · 15/07/2024 21:11

@TRNSMTtaxi wow late one! Didn’t realise there was less than a days notice of cancellation, that’s appalling..

Yes they did, but the pay deal does not require drivers to work overtime. This action isn't about pay, it's simply working to rule, it's about not relying on drivers working their rest days in order to run a service.
