Rental Market in Glasgow

We are relocating from London to Glasgow in August. We have not managed to buy a house and struggling to find a family home to rent. We have four teenage children and need a study. Any recommendations apart from Rightmove.

Welcome to Scotland!

Where about in Glasgow are you looking and what's the budget?

Does it have to be in the city or is there an element of commuting.

What age are the kids for school?

ChocoChocoLatte · 05/07/2024 00:05

Have you signed up to all the local estate agents?

Slater Hogg Howison etc

Pinkpanda30 · 05/07/2024 00:24

Wow, thanks so much for speedy response. We are excited both of us are Scottish but have been down south for 20 years. Looking forward to being home but also nervous. Children 19, 16, 13 and 11. One is at uni and the other 3 have Glasgow school places. We’re now getting desperate so happy to commute. We’re signed up with all the typical agents but wondering if we’re missing something.

We had hoped to buy in the south side but now expanding our search to Bearsden and Milingavie. Any views on how suitable Milingavie is for teenagers?

Whereabouts on the Southside, and what is the budget and your needs/wants i.e. number of bedrooms/parking etc.

YouCantTunaFish · 05/07/2024 00:41

Where are the kids going to school? Commuting across the city is a nightmare for the school run.

Mydustymonstera · 05/07/2024 08:09

How do you have school places without an address? Private?

and where are the schools and work. Public transport is… particular. Idiosyncratic? Shit?

Pinkpanda30 · 05/07/2024 10:48

Working from home. School is private and in town.

Try s1 homes and join local Fb pages- sometimes small landlords will advertise on there.

Bearsden, Milngavie, Lenzie are all nice areas with direct trains into town, quite short commutes. There will be other kids on trains or school busses going to your kids' school.

thedevilinablackdress · 06/07/2024 11:03

What's your budget? For buying and for rental?

Pinkpanda30 · 15/07/2024 09:59

Thanks you for your replies and apologies for the delay. We have not found a rental so decided to stay with family and our furniture in storage. It will be a squeeze but very grateful to them. There are great flats to rent but most of them are only 2 bedrooms or for students.

Any recommendations on storage firms? Basically we will only be able to take the minimum with us so a lot of sentimental things will be in storage (photos, hand made things by the children etc). These are so precious! Thank you
