Is it normally the pastoral care teacher? Or can you choose which teacher?

Usually the guidance teacher / pastoral care. Last year my dd's year head did hers. I think the format of these things are changing though?

As far as I remember, DSs were allocated a teacher/staff member to assist and complete the ucas section. Usually based on what they were applying for/who had a particular relationship with them.

That's in a school with high levels of applications so would need to spread it out.

Thanks

This

Dependibg on what they were applying for they were allocated to a teacher who did that subject. Eg my son applied for maths and computing so his was a computing teacher. If someone was applying for medicine would probably have been a chemistry teacher, etc

Depends on the school. Some schools ask subject teachers to submit paragraphs to a central UCAS team of people who draws the info together and write the references. Some use the form teachers or a teacher responsible for those applying for certain degrees ef medicine and vet by one, engineering another etc.

It's been a while but both my 2 were in classes that the teacher was usually their head of house and knew them well so could tailor the reference to the pupil and course they were applying to.

SandyIrving · 13/06/2024 14:23

Head of House at my DCs schools. One of mine switched schools and old school offered to do instead.

Not sure how much it matters except for StA

Puygo · 13/06/2024 14:50

What is StA?

Presume St Andrews. I know any applying to oxbridge from DSs school got allocated a member of the SMT rather than a bog standard staff member like everyone else...

WeAllHaveWings · 14/06/2024 07:17

Ds school matched students with an appropriate teacher, ds was allocated his chemistry teacher he had from S3-S5 so knew him very well.

SandyIrving · 14/06/2024 07:55

Yes StA=St Andrews. At a open day they said they used reference in the selection whereas others my DD applied to said they just scanned reference for info not already elsewhere on the form.
