S4 leaving school

I can’t get a clear response from school. DS is 15, 16 in July. His last exam is mid May and we’ve had a leavers form to fill in for school. He’s going to college in September.

The leavers form says he can’t leave before he’s 16 so that would mean he leaves when school finishes for the summer holidays. There was also a very short conversation with this head of house that lead me to believe he doesn’t have to go back to school after his last exam. I have tried to follow that up with school but I am still not getting a confirmed response.

Our school have kids in school on a Friday for a normal day. Only Monday to Thursday is exam leave. I am happy to send him in on a Friday as usual. Also, our school moves up a year and timetable change is on Monday 27th May so I assume he will have definitely left by then has he’s no 5th year subject to take.

What usually happens? Pondering what to do with a 15/16 year old for almost 4 months but it’s difficult to plan without school confirming their position!

Dont worry about it - what are they going to do if he doesn't come in when they say he should? schools are deliberatly vague about final dates, to avoid planned trouble, like one school year going round to another school to ambush them leaving, and such like

They won't expect him back in after his last Nat 5.

If you turn 16 between 1 March and 30 September you can leave school after 31 May of that year. If you turn 16 between 1 October and the end of February you can leave at the start of the Christmas holidays in that school year.
