shortbread in a nice tin

Long story - DH and I are going to New York over Easter and through the Big Apple Greeters scheme have been paired with a volunteer who is going to take us around one morning through Brooklyn and do the "insider's guide" thing. It's all free and they are clear that you are not allowed to pay them or tip them. Small gifts are allowed though and we want to get a shortbread tin - not box - you know, the really typical roaming in the gloaming, tartan, stag on the tin sort of thing. We are not near a typically tourist shop where they sell that sort of thing, where would you look? Sure I've seen similar in M&S but Christmas only.

M and S always has tons of shortbread I’m sure. Ours sainsbury also had some recently but I guess they could have been post-Xmas sale ones.

M and s have a nice deer one at the moment, it's blue rather than red if I recall but nice and Scottish looking !

No, not the Saltire one. That is not what Americans associate with Scotland - it's the twee tartan imagery that i'm looking for.

Will make a trip to the bigger M&S at Anniesland and see what they have, thanks all.

Yes that hits the mark @fourelementary , the highland cows one is lovely but far too tasteful!!!

I think garden centre gift shops sell this kind of thing.

Good shout - there's a large Dobbies not far away. Never thought about looking in there.

You'd probably get one at the airport but it's a gamble and likely to be overpriced!

Glasgowlass93 · 26/02/2024 15:21

Wh smith in the airport if you are really stuck

Will try M&S tomorrow and report back!

The Walkers ones have commemorative tine of the old queen and King Charles in a kilt. I'd say the Americans would love a bit of that action!

snoopyfanaccountant · 26/02/2024 21:35

If Coatbridge is within striking distance, McKinnon Mills regularly hosts coach trips and has lots of twee shortbread tins and tartan tat.

M&S came up trumps, two choices of design, one with stag and one with highland cow. Went for the cow!

I bought the M&S one recently and they tasted delicious. Good choice.
