Good Morning

We are relocating from Cumbria to just outside Thornhill in a few months time.

What dog friendly cafes or pubs are there in the Thornhill/Dumfries area?
Which would you recommend?
We are aware there won't be as many as where we are now!!
I've tried looking online but Google isn't too helpful.
TIA.

I think you'll find most of the pubs in the area are dog friendly - the Buccleuch in Thornhill I'm pretty sure is, and I've seen quite a chunky labrador snoozing by the fire there before (it's my home village). I'm not sure Thomas Tosh is dog friendly (too many breakables!) but always worth asking.

The Farmer's Arms has just been taken over, so they may well take dogs - before it was very much a drinking/man's pub.

Outside Thornhill, you've got the Auldgirth Inn - we used to take our dogs there a lot, but that is before it changed hands and went more upmarket. Go along the coast to Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, and I'll be surprised if most places don't accept dogs. It's a very laid back region in that respect.

Thanks for replying. We are heading up in a few weeks to do some measuring up at the new house, so we'll check them out.
