Audiology

Has anyone's DC had a recent referral to audiology? How long was it between referral and appointment? 3 year old DS was only referred 6 weeks ago due to my concerns about hearing loss. I haven't heard anything yet (didn't expect to this soon) but I feel his hearing is getting worse. Would you chase up the referral this soon or wait?

I think it will vary from area to area.
Best option is to phone local hospital and ask for audiology

DS did but he's an adult. We went and got an initial hearing test at Boots (on GPs recommendation) to get the initial assessment complete, we then submitted that to the GP to take the referral through more quickly. It was then painfully slow at times. At one point the test he'd had done at hospital expired by the time he saw the consultant and so the consultant had to send him back to get that done again.

I have to say that after he saw the consultant they were very thorough and he progressed quickly after that (including a CT scan, then an MRI).

Hopefully child services goes faster at the initial stage.

Often you can call your health board or place you are referred to and ask to be put on a cancellation list, I did this and we got an appointment the following week (couple of hours notice) once we'd been referred and were on their books. Not sure how long it would have taken otherwise as nobody wanted to say or even estimate the waiting list.

Thanks all. The GP said the waiting time for children wasn't as long as it is for adults but didn't/couldn't give an estimate of how long it's likely to be. I checked Boots and Specsavers for a private appointment but they only test adults over 18. I'll give the hospital a call and see where we are on the list.
