Driving in Edinburgh city centre & trams

Hi Everyone
Just recently moved into city and have to cross Leith Walk regularly.
I’ve looked at Highway Code and can’t seem to find answer.
If I’m going down Leith Walk in car and turning right, I need to be in the tram lane. However I have to stop at lights before I can turn.
Can I sit in the lane that the tram runs on also, until lights change to green (so as to not sit in box junction)?
Don’t want to block tram but it feels like the only thing to do in this situation.
I’ve attached a photo

Trying to be helpful here! I cycle up and down Leith Walk quite often, signage could be clearer, but have you had a good look to see if there are signs telling you which lane cars should be in?

I drove that way recently. I know it feels wrong to drive on the tram lines but that's what you do. I did question it with my passenger, who is a Leith resident, and she said that's what you have to do.

Thanks both, it’s just seems odd to do. I suppose because I’m not used to it. Will have to keep an eye on traffic and read signs etc… bloody scary when there’s a tram behind you.
