Hogmanay

What's your Hogmanay plans Scotsnetters?

We are having all the family round and my mums making a giant steak pie and clootie dumpling followed by booze and board games

Sad to see there's no Scot Squad / Only An Excuse on the tellybox. Just something called 'Queen of the Year'. Will this do the job?

Anyone going into town or to parties?

PS if you are a Hogmanay hater there are other threads

i saw a wee old couple in Lidl today who had Madeira cake in their basket and it just made me think of Hogmanay it was so cute

I am 54 (how did that happen) and I still love Hogmanay.

I have very fond memories of first footing with my dad back in the 70’s. The day was spent totally gutting the house from top to bottom. I still to this day clean more for Hogmanay than Christmas but I no longer fear the bad luck of welcoming the New Year with a dirty doorstep or washing to be done.

This year DH and I are away for a break and have tickets for a party/ceilidh at a hotel. If we were at home our neighbours would definitely come in to us after the bells for a dram or two.

My children (25-18) are going to ticketed events in local pubs. Funnily enough they love Hogmanay too and declined an invite to come away with us preferring to bring in the bells with friends. I just hope our house isn’t the venue for the afters when the pub closes at 1am.

As little as possible. I really don't like hogmanay, everything is over priced, to busy and over rated nobody first foots now. Me and DH are taking the kids to a wildlife park tomorrow in the day then they can watch a film with snacks, let of sparklers and go to bed. I don't want to wake up on the 1st with a hangover so won't drink much.

Probably stay up till just after midnight then off to bed, I used to enjoy Hogmanay as a child when any random people came to the door and you invited them in and gave them drink.
That all seems to have died out now and nobody here (NE) seems to do anything.
NY day will be roast beef as it always was in my childhood. Is the steak pie a southern Scottish thing as it was never the case when I was young but seems to be creeping in up here too recently,

gawditswindy · 31/12/2023 17:00

I think steak pie was because it was stodge to soak up the booze.

We originally hail from Glasgow and have always done steak pie either neeps and tatties to live the stomach and disk up the booze.

I'm pregnant and shattered, and DH is getting over a heavy cold, so we'll have a curry with a few family and watch a film but I'm not sure we'll see the bells tonight!

Wheeeeee · 31/12/2023 17:15

Have got a steak pie in for tomorrow though 😋

Dundee and very much a thing here too!

Reestit mutton on New Years’ Day. Didn’t have steak pie until I moved to Glasgow. It’s now a tradition in our family.

Hogmanay TV I though Michelle McManus 'Get The Tunes on' and 'Queen of the New Year' were smashing but I did have a lot of Prosecco by then. If you didn't watch them I recommend on iplayer.

This morning kids are still sleeping 😴
Heading off to my parents later for a huge NYD roast dinner.
