Student Accommodation Strathclyde offer off campus

DD starting at Strathclyde University soon and she's been offered off campus accommodation. It's expensive and also not mainly linked to Strathclyde. She's very shy and really anxious about the offer and accepting it.

Anyone any insights as to swapping to halls or success in rejecting the offer and successfully getting halls?

They seem quite stringent that it's one offer only .

There will be other students there though so she will still make friends.

At my DD's university you could try to swap before university started on social media but it was complicated as you had to swap with someone who was in the same type of halls. Ones owned by the same company I mean. Then after November 20th you could put your name on a list for a room if someone had dropped out, but again it had to be the same provider.

Your dd would probably feel more confident and settled if you looked for the positives in the place she's been offered. Near the shops or the pub or whatever.

Fair point. I'm trying to be positive

Strathclyde are so short of accommodation last year they tried to buy DD4 out of her halls lease after Christmas. There were students on her course who didn't have anything at that point. She was in the oldest, smallest, not even a basin in the room type/ I didn't know they still existed.

It's maybe not what you'd both hoped for but Glasgow's housing market is squeezing students further and further out. Like PP said frame her accommodation in a positive light and when she sees that some students were offered nothing at all) she might feel fortunate. DD4 trued to get off campus private halls second year from Feb - all full. Good luck to her.

I phoned student accommodation today and had a good chat and they were very reassuring so all settled now.

I need to stop jumping when she is anxious.
